A burglar has been jailed for a string of crimes after leaving DNA on a Capri-Sun juice he drank at a crime scene.
Levi Davis, 35, trashed a cafe while stealing £200 in a late-night raid.
The crook stole a CCTV hard drive to cover his tracks but left behind a half-finished Capri-Sun juice.
He has now been jailed for four years after police used DNA evidence to connect him to further robberies.
Prosecutor Jonathan Seely said: “The defendant stole £180 from the safe, £50 from the till and the CCTV hard drive worth £50.
“Food was strewn across the shop and a half finished Capri-Sun drink was left, together with a green rucksack containing tools.”
Davis initially denied carrying out the theft at Café Oriental in Cambridge, between 1.30am and 2am on July 25.
But when police told him DNA proved he was at the scene he changed his story.
He also admitted stealing £5000 of goods during a raid on a family home where a four-month-old baby was asleep.
Mr Seely added: “He jemmied the window into the kitchen and stole two bikes, jewellery, clothes, credit cards and food totalling £5,000.
“This occurred while the family, with two children including a four-month-old baby, were sleeping.”
Davis admitted three counts of burglary and one count of fraud and was jailed at Cambridge Crown Court on Friday.
A victim impact statement from the café said staff there now felt “scared” and described the crime as a “shock”.
