This year saw a whole lot of self-balancing scooter dramas: the falls, the explosions and more. If you’ve got thousands of dollars to throw around, you can get this $20,000 hoverboard that sort of looks like a flying mattress.
ArcaSpace released a video of their latest invention, a hoverboard that can actually lift you off the ground. No, this has no wheels, it actually hovers. This hoverboard is powered by a grid of 36 electric fans generating about 430 pounds of thrust, that’s about 272 horsepower according to the company.
The “ArcaBoard” can actually lift an average person off the ground by a foot. Here’s a problem though: the hoverboard takes 6 hours to fully charge and a full charge can only carry you for about 6 minutes… and you pay $20,000 USD for it.
However, if you can cough out an extra $4,500 USD, there’s an ArcaDock charging accessory that can charge the hoverboard under 35 minutes.

Well, this doesn’t look like something you want to move around with, it looks more like an advanced toy you can use for fun.
World’s first real hoverboard?
This isn’t the world’s first real hoverboard but it’s certain one of the first working ones. Hendo has already been invented by a Silicon Valley startup called Arx Pax but its yet to be commercially available. The Kickstarter project was announced last year and raised over $500,000 USD.
Arcaboard’s availability
Arcaspace says the Arcaboard will be available by April 2016 but the price tag placed on it is quite hefty. Can you pay all that money for it even if you had it?
