Tragic : Twins Died After Sneaking into Olympics luge track and Crashed

TWO teenage brothers have died and six of their friends are injured after sneaking into a bobsled track after-hours and using their own toboggan, according to police.

The boys, both 17, were pronounced dead at the scene after reportedly hitting a large gate while using the track.
Emergency crews were called to the WinSport Canada track in northwest Calgary at 1.30am local time.

Officers are now investigating how the group got into the facility, which was used in the 1988 Olympics.

A police spokesman said that efforts to identify the remaining victims are continuing but it has been difficult because they are “severely traumatised”.

Local Jeff Hughes, who lives near the track, said the access road is normally closed at night but had recently been open.

He said: "Kids are kids, they make a decision they want to go and have some fun and usually they figure out a way to have it.
“I don't believe that the road being open or closed would have made a difference, but who knows.”

Bobsleigh pilot Melissa Lowe tweeted that she is "beyond devastated" at the tragic news.
And former bobsledder Brian Grant said: "It's a great temptation to hop on something and go down the track.
"Once they started from the top they would not have been able to stop."

WinSport boss Barry Heck said safety is “very, very important” and hit back at allegations that others had used the track after-hours.

He told reporters: "I have heard of incidents of people coming into the park. I do not personally know of any incidents of anyone being on the sliding track.”
